Not only must you learn the basics of triathlon, like how to maintain a consistent training schedule, practice open water swimming, execute transitions, and stick to a nutrition plan, there are major differences between short-course and long-course triathlon. For example, a short-course triathlon (sprint or Olympic) may take between 1-3 hours, while a long-course triathlon (70.3 or IRONMAN) will take anywhere from 5-8 hours and 11-17 hours, respectively.
